Krasnoyarsk police returned 650 thousand rubles transferred to fraudsters to a pensioner.

Police officers returned 650 thousand rubles to a 77-year-old pensioner, which she handed over to fraudsters. This was announced on December 2 in the press service of the Main directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

It is clarified that the woman received a call from a false representative of an Energy retailer and offered to replace the meters, for which she provided her personal information. After that, police officers allegedly called her and informed her that her data had been used by criminals. To avoid problems with the law, the pensioner was offered to withdraw money from bank accounts and transfer them to a courier for "declaration."

Within two days, the pensioner collected 650 thousand rubles and gave the money to a young man who came to her house. However, the courier, who went to a financial institution to transfer funds to the fraudsters' account, was stopped by bank employees, who called the police.

"The 19-year-old courier was detained and taken to the police department for proceedings. The money he took from the victim was seized. <...> Police department investigators returned all her savings to the victim," the department's Telegram channel says.

It became known that the young man, who decided to make money on the offer of easy earnings, agreed to a job for which he was promised 2% of the amount. A criminal case has been opened against him under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed by a person using his official position"). He faces up to six years in prison.

Fraudsters use the numbers of real-life documents

On November 2, the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that fraudsters were luring Russians' personal data under the guise of a call from an "accountant" who allegedly informed them about the payment. It is noted that the attackers call the time of recording, the cabinet number and explain that it is impossible to resolve the issue remotely, and at the end of the conversation they ask to dictate passport data, allegedly to issue a temporary pass.
