Shaman explained the refusal to re-register the trademark
On November 20, Honored Artist of Russia Yaroslav Dronov (Shaman) announced that he was not going to re-apply for registration of the trademark "I am Russian".
"Why? No," the artist said, answering a question from RIA Novosti about a possible re—application.
Shaman explained his decision by saying that the application was aimed at demonstrating that it was impossible to use his name without permission. Also, according to the artist, he made the decision with safety in mind, since if companies had managed to register a trademark, they could have started producing and selling products such as vodka with that name, which could have led to negative consequences.
The singer stressed that this initiative was rather a preventive measure.
"Thus, I interrupted their desire to do bad things. I knew this would happen, and I did it carefully and beautifully, within the framework of the law," he concluded.
On October 16, 2024, it became known that the singer was registering the trademark "I am Russian". Under this name, the performer can produce alcoholic beverages and cosmetics.
On October 9, 2025, it was reported that Rospatent refused SHAMAN registration of the trademark "I am Russian". Both of the contractor's applications, which were submitted back in 2024, were rejected. According to lawyer Sergey Zuikov, the trademark "I am Russian" has no distinguishing ability and does not characterize the declared goods, therefore it cannot be registered.
The head of Rospatent, Yuri Zubov, explained on October 19, 2025, that the expression "I am Russian" is generally used, therefore, it cannot be registered as a trademark.
