The Insect Museum in Beijing has released an unusual coffee with cockroach powder and dried yellow maggots, assuring visitors of the drink's safety. This was reported on November 19 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

The Insect Museum in the capital of China offered visitors coffee with ground cockroach powder and dried yellow larvae. According to visitors, the drink has a "bitter and slightly sour" taste. The drink is mostly ordered by curious young people, while parents with children are skeptical about it due to the presence of cockroaches. Coffee costs $6 per cup.

An employee of the museum said that the series of drinks was launched in June, and it has recently become popular on the Internet. The museum also offers drinks using the digestive juice of a carnivorous plant and a limited edition of drinks made using ants. All ingredients are purchased in traditional Chinese medicine stores, which ensures safety for consumers, the material said.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, cockroach powder can improve blood circulation, and protein larvae help strengthen the immune system. An employee of the museum noted that drinks with ants have a sour taste, and water lily coffee is almost the same as usual.

Unusual coffee experiments are not uncommon in China: this year, a cafe in Yunnan Province offered coffee with fried worms, and a coffee shop in Jiangxi Province mixed lattes with hot peppers and chili.

Earlier, on October 6, biohacking expert Maria Molostva revealed the benefits and harms of coffee. She warned that regular consumption of coffee drinks can develop addiction, provoke stomach irritation and dehydration. According to the expert, people with hypertension and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract should be especially careful.
