The Investigative Committee of Russia (IC) has identified a man involved in 25 rapes of women and underage girls committed in Moscow in the 2000s. This was reported in the press service of the department in the Telegram channel.

"Two decades later, one of the most high-profile and brutal cases of a serial rapist was solved in Moscow. A 73-year-old man appeared in court on 25 counts. His victims were mostly minors returning from school. The youngest is only 12 years old," the message says.

The charges also included 11 robberies, which injured 16 people. The accused pleaded guilty, and the criminal case was sent to court.

According to the Investigative Committee, the crimes occurred in the 2000s: the attacker tracked down girls and women, followed them into the entrances and threatened them with a knife. The case was solved as part of a review of previous years' crimes. Criminologists have studied about 1.5 thousand cases and identified the characteristic handwriting of the criminal.

The key evidence was biological materials collected more than 20 years ago. The genetic examination confirmed that they belong to the accused. He was also identified by the victims.

The Investigative Committee noted that the man had previously been repeatedly prosecuted, including for similar crimes, and was released from prison only a year ago.

Earlier, on May 16, a court in Omsk sentenced a 59-year-old man in a 25-year-old rape case. It was clarified that the defendant met an unknown 17-year-old girl, forcibly took her to a deserted place, beat and raped her. After the crime, he immediately left the Omsk region and was wanted for a long time, but in September 2024 he was detained and taken into custody.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
