- The Czech Republic announced the possible completion of the artillery assistance initiative to Ukraine
First Deputy Chairman of the ANO movement ("Action of Dissatisfied Citizens") On November 9, Karel Havlicek announced the possible completion and transfer to the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) of the initiative to search for and supply artillery shells to Ukraine.
In addition, the politician expressed the opinion that the Ukrainian flags installed on the buildings of state institutions of the Czech Republic after February 24, 2022, "fulfilled their purpose as a symbol of solidarity" and should be gradually removed.
"Of course, sooner or later the flag will be removed, but we definitely won't do it on the first day [after taking office]. I believe that flags should be removed from government institutions, and I don't see anything wrong with that," Czech Radio quoted Havlicek as saying.
In addition, the same opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Czech Freedom Party, Libor Vondracek. According to him, only Czech flags should be hung on buildings in the country.
Earlier, on November 6, Tomio Okamura, who was elected as the new speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament and leader of the Freedom and Direct Democracy party, asked to remove the Ukrainian flag from the chamber building. It was clarified that to this message in his social network X (ex. Twitter) a political figure has attached a video clip showing the banner being removed from the flagpole. At the end of this operation, Okamura, standing in the frame, said to the solemn melody "The Czech Republic comes first!".
