- Guberniev called ISU Valieva's withdrawal from the 2022 European Championship gold expected
The loss of figure skater Kamila Valieva's gold at the 2022 European Championships by the International Skating Union (ISU) was to be expected. This was stated on November 8 by sports commentator and TV presenter Dmitry Guberniev in an interview with the newspaper Sport-Express.
"It was asking for it. It would be strange if they left her a medal, gave her another cup and a lot of prize money," he said.
According to Guberniev, the figure skater lost her awards because she "willy-nilly violated the rules." At the same time, the commentator drew attention to the fact that the situation related to Valiyeva's case remains unclear.
He also stressed that currently the athlete needs to focus on returning to figure skating and on winning.
"There are all prerequisites for this," the TV presenter concluded.
On November 6, the ISU officially approved the results of the 2022 European Figure Skating Championships after the decision of the Swiss Federal Tribunal in the case of Kamila Valieva, giving victory to figure skater Anna Shcherbakova. It was clarified that such a decision marked the end of a multi-year trial that began after Valieva's positive doping test.
In January last year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found Valieva guilty of violating anti-doping rules. As a result, the athlete was disqualified for four years due to the use of trimetazidine. The panel of arbitrators decided to annul the skater's results from December 25, 2021.
On October 30 of this year, it was reported that the Swiss Federal Court rejected a request for review of the decision to uphold the CAS verdict in the case of Valieva's anti-doping rule violation. Lawyer Anna Ancelovich told Izvestia that all the courts have confirmed this decision, which makes it pointless to go somewhere and ask for something.
