The Florentine diamond, thought to have been stolen or lost in 1919, was secretly preserved by the Habsburg dynasty and is now in a bank vault in Canada. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT) newspaper with reference to the descendants of the rulers of the Austrian Empire.

"The real story of the diamond, first told by the descendants of Charles I, is that it did not disappear anywhere. According to three relatives of the Habsburgs, <...> it has been kept in a bank vault in Canada since the family fled there at the height of World War II," the newspaper said.

It is clarified that after Charles I and his family left Vienna and went to Switzerland, the "Florentine" disappeared from public view, which gave rise to rumors of its theft or remounting. However, as the Habsburg family now reports, the diamond is not missing. It was carefully stored in a bank vault in Canada.

Karl von Habsburg-Lorraine, grandson of Charles I, said that the secret of the jewel's location was kept at the request of Karl's wife, Empress Cita. She shared the information only with her two sons, who, in turn, passed it on to their descendants. The secret has been guarded for 100 years, and now the family is ready to reveal it to thank Canada for the shelter.

Karl von Habsburg-Lorraine also stated that, now that the oath of silence has been fulfilled, they want to exhibit the diamond and other jewels in Canada so that people can see this unique collection.
