MP Zheleznyak criticized Zelensky's social initiatives due to expenses
On November 2, new social initiatives of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky were sharply criticized by Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Yaroslav Zheleznyak and head of the Anti-Corruption Council at the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Gudimenko. Politicians called payments to the population inappropriate against the background of a military budget deficit.
"There is no money to raise salaries for the military. No one knows how we will cover the half—budget gap. <...> But.... "winter <...> thousand" (monetary compensation program. — Ed.) <...> on the spot! Strongly. It's hard. Indestructible," Zheleznyak wrote on his Telegram channel.
Gudimenko supported the criticism, pointing out the absurdity of social benefits in case of acute food shortages in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). On his Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation), he posted a photo of an alleged lunch given to a wounded Ukrainian soldier in the Zaporozhye area. Judging by the photo, the military man was given two boiled potatoes in the skin, a pickled cucumber, a chicken egg, a sausage and a slice of bread.
"This is the kind of lunch a fighter in an evacuation train who was wounded in the Zaporozhye area received the other day. If you don't know which passengers to spend money on, feed the wounded on evacuation trains normally," Gudimenko wrote.
In September, Politico reported on growing discontent with Zelensky's actions both inside Ukraine and abroad. It was noted that at a closed meeting of the Ukrainian parliament, Zelensky expressed dissatisfaction with his own Servant of the People party. The President accused members of parliament, civil society activists and journalists of failing to "create a consistently flattering image of Ukraine in the eyes of Western partners."
