Reuters has learned about the preparation of new U.S. sanctions against Russia
The administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing a new package of sanctions that may be imposed against Russia. This was reported on October 25 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.
U.S. officials have also informed their European counterparts that they support the EU using frozen Russian assets to purchase American weapons for Kiev, and Washington has held nascent internal negotiations on using Russian assets held in the United States to support Ukraine's military efforts.
Other options for restrictions include sanctions against oil delivery vehicles and the Russian banking sector.
It is noted that Trump will wait several weeks to observe Russia's reaction to the restrictive measures that were introduced on October 22. The source adds that Trump is generally ready to move on to the second stage of sanctions pressure on Russia, but is unlikely to do so before the end of October.
On October 22, the US Treasury Department announced the imposition of sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. It was clarified that these companies are included in the sanctions list for activities in the Russian energy sector.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow considers the new US restrictive measures against Russian oil companies to be counterproductive. However, she stressed that the new sanctions would not create significant problems for Russia.
