The Pentagon has received an anonymous donation of $130 million, which is intended to pay salaries to military personnel during the ongoing shutdown in the United States. This was announced on October 24 by Sean Parnell, a spokesman for the military department.

"On October 23, 2025, the Ministry of War (as the Ministry of Defense is now called in the United States. — Ed.) accepted an anonymous donation of $130 million as part of his general authority to accept gifts," Bloomberg quoted him as saying.

According to the terms of the donor, the funds should be used to compensate for the costs of salaries and benefits for military personnel, Parnell assured. However, the agency points out that the legal status of such an operation remains in question, since federal law generally prohibits private targeted donations to the government.

It is noted that the amount will cover only a small part of the cost of the salary fund — on average about $ 100 (about 8 thousand rubles) for each of the 1.3 million military personnel. Last September, for comparison, the US government spent $ 9.8 billion on military personnel, Bloomberg writes.

The next payment of the allowance is due on October 29. The Pentagon has not commented on the possible legal consequences of accepting the donation.

The day before, White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced during a briefing that more than 500,000 federal employees in the United States would not receive their salaries on Friday, October 24, due to the ongoing shutdown in the country. She stressed that Democratic senators had voted 12 times against reopening the government.

The shutdown was introduced in the United States on October 1 due to the fact that the draft budget was not agreed upon by the senators. The Washington Post reported on October 10 that the administration of the American president has already begun to dismiss federal employees representing trade, finance, health and human services, education and homeland security.
