- The Times pointed to US counterintelligence concerns about the beauty of Russian women.
American counterintelligence has expressed concerns that attractive Russian and Chinese women could be used as spies by marrying American scientists to gain access to technological secrets. This was reported by The Times on October 23.
"China and Russia send attractive women to seduce technology professionals — even to marry them and have children," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, such women are not always professional spies, but often they are ordinary citizens who, on their own initiative or on behalf of countries, want to collect information.
James Mulvenon, head of the intelligence department at Pamir Consulting, a company specializing in risk assessment for investors in China, said he himself had been the target of such attempts. He told the newspaper that in recent months he had received numerous requests from young women with Chinese names via social media. Malvenon also mentioned a case where two Chinese women were barred from a business conference in Virginia for similar reasons.
On October 8, CBS News, citing sources in the department, reported that the Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, called for a lie detector test of department employees in order to identify data leaks to the media. It is clarified that Gabbard published an internal memo last month, in which she ordered the American intelligence services to check the possibility of conducting.
