On October 23, the Border District Court in Primorsky Krai found guilty French cyclist Sofiane Sekhili, who was arrested in Primorye for illegally crossing the Russian state border, and fined him 50,000 rubles.

"Sofian Sekhili <...> should be found guilty <...> and a fine of 50 thousand rubles should be imposed, taking into account his time in jail, and he should be released from paying the fine," RIA Novosti quoted Judge Irina Bille as saying.

It is known that Sekhili was tried for illegally crossing the Russian border under Part 1 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The joint press service of the judicial system of Primorsky Krai clarified to TASS that Sekhili was released from custody in the courtroom.

"In accordance with Part 5 of Article 72 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, taking into account the time in custody from 09/04/2025 to 10/20/2025, Sekhili is completely exempt from paying a fine. The preventive measure in the form of detention was canceled, Sekhili was released from custody in the courtroom," the department said.

French cyclist Sofiane Sekhili was detained on September 6 for illegally crossing the border in Vladivostok. It was clarified that since July of this year, the cyclist traveled through Tajikistan, Mongolia and China.

On September 18, Vladimir Naidin, Chairman of the Public Monitoring Commission of Primorsky Krai, announced that a cyclist from France who had illegally crossed the border was currently in a pre-trial detention center. According to him, the detainee said that he wanted to cross the Russian-Chinese border. Due to a misunderstanding, the man was not allowed to ride his bike at the checkpoint, so he decided to "cut off" in another place.

On October 9, the Court of Appeal dismissed the complaint of Sekhili's defense.
