Over the past six months, cyber police officers have prevented embezzlement of 1.7 billion rubles. This was announced on October 10 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"The amount of damage prevented is 1.7 billion rubles," the department's Telegram channel says.
It is specified that in six months, almost 200 couriers were detained, and more than 100 SIM boxes were seized. In addition, the commission of fraudulent crimes against 8 thousand citizens was prevented.
On the same day, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that fraudsters could use fake documents to obtain a duplicate SIM card from a telecom operator. As noted in the department, this scheme is called a SIM-swap attack. Attackers who gain access to a duplicate SIM card can intercept messages, confirmation codes, and online banking data.
