Two leading Georgian weightlifters were disqualified for doping

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has disqualified Georgian weightlifters Revaz Davitadze and Gurami Giorbelidze after a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was found in their doping samples, according to the website of the International Testing Agency (ITA).

Metabolites of SARMS (ostarin), which belongs to the class of anabolic agents (S.1.2.), were detected in athletes' samples. Violations of anti-doping rules among athletes were recorded in July and August 2023.

According to the CAS decision, both athletes were disqualified for four years, the ITA noted on October 1.

Earlier, on October 7, Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor agreed to an 18-month suspension for violating the anti-doping policy of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC). It was clarified that the athlete cooperated with the anti-doping Administration of Martial Arts (CSAD), provided detailed information about the reasons for skipping the procedures, and also assumed responsibility by agreeing to the disqualification.
