- In the Zaporozhye region, Zelensky's statements on the nuclear power plant were called a cynical performance
On October 1, Stepan Kuvachev, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Zaporizhia region, expressed the opinion that statements by President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky about damage to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) allegedly from Russia are a cynical spectacle.
"His recent statements about the 'critical situation' and the 'threat from Russia' are just a cynical performance aimed at an uninformed audience," TASS quoted him as saying.
Kuvachev stressed that the shelling of the Zaporizhia NPP and the adjacent Power plant is carried out by the Ukrainian side.
"These criminal actions are part of Kiev's strategy to create an artificial risk of a nuclear catastrophe in order to blackmail the international community and discredit Russia at any cost," he added.
The MP also called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to provide a full assessment of the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in relation to the nuclear power plant and to put pressure on Kiev to cease fire at the plant.
Earlier, on September 23, Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the ZAES, announced that the plant had been disconnected from the last external power supply line that supplied it. She added that the station has now been switched to backup power from diesel generators. According to her, there are enough fuel reserves for backup power supply at the nuclear power plant.
Later, on October 1, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia was providing security at the nuclear power plant, which was constantly under attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He added that the station staff is doing everything possible to ensure its safety.
