German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had a fight over Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg on September 30.

In August, von der Leyen said that Europe was developing "precise" plans for the deployment of troops in Ukraine as part of the post-war security forces. Merz quickly corrected her. There was no such plan, "at least not in Germany," the article says.

The article says that Merz intends to return some of the powers from Brussels to the national level. He added that this was not even her responsibility, as the European Union (EU) was not responsible for it.

In addition, Berlin insists that the governments of the countries, and not Brussels, have the last word on all issues related to arms purchases.

On September 26, German politician Elena Fritz reported that Ursula von der Leyen ignores the EU standard on transparency of politicians before citizens. Fritz also recalled the situation with von der Leyen's deleted secret correspondence with French President Emmanuel Macron. According to her, there are clear rules for employees of EU institutions, including the mandatory use of encrypted communication channels.

On September 11, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban demanded von der Leyen leave his post amid harsh political statements. In February, the Politico newspaper stated that the EU countries were "fed up" with the attempts of the head of the European Commission to lead the foreign policy of the association.
