The United States is significantly lagging behind China in the speed of transition to renewable energy sources. This was reported on September 22 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The publication notes that China is actively developing green energy, while under the administration of American leader Donald Trump, the United States relied on oil and gas production.

According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Rhodium Group, in the second quarter of this year, for the first time, American companies canceled more renewable energy projects than they announced. Investments in clean energy decreased by 51% compared to the previous quarter.

At the same time, in China, solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 277 gigawatts were commissioned in the first seven months of this year, which is four times more than the planned volume of energy capacity in the United States for 2025.

In January, the Global Times newspaper reported that the world's largest pumped storage hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Fengning began operating in full in the city of Chengdu in northern China. It was clarified that the PSPP is the leading technology for storing renewable energy and plays a key role in promoting the country's transition to green energy.

Later, in February, the South China Morning Post (SHMP) reported that thorium reserves in the Bayan Ob mining region in China could be enough to provide the country with fuel for 60,000 years. It was noted that thorium could radically change energy production and end "global dependence on fossil fuels."
