The creation of the State of Palestine threatens the existence of Israel. This was announced on September 21 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a weekly meeting of his cabinet.

He stressed that the Jewish state would respond to calls for a Palestinian state at a conference of world leaders in the coming days.

"We will have to fight in the UN and in all other arenas against the false propaganda directed at us and calls for the creation of a Palestinian state, which will endanger our existence and become an absurd reward for terror," The Times of Israel newspaper quoted him as saying.

Netanyahu also repeated his previous remarks that countries that recognize the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly encourage acts of terror by the Hamas movement against Israel.

Earlier that day, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia recognized the statehood of Palestine.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stressed that the joint efforts of the three countries are aimed at creating a new impetus for a two-state solution, which will include a cease-fire in Gaza and the release of hostages captured by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
