Australia has officially recognized the statehood of Palestine. This was announced on September 21 by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on his page on the social network X (former. Twitter).

"Starting today, Sunday, September 21, 2025, the Australian Union officially recognizes the independent and sovereign State of Palestine," Albanese said in a statement accompanying the publication.

It is noted that the recognition of Palestine by Australia has become part of a coordinated international effort together with Canada and the United Kingdom. These actions are aimed at creating a new impetus for a two-State solution, which will include a cease-fire in Gaza and the release of hostages captured by the Hamas movement on October 7, 2023.

The statement stresses that the recognition reflects Australia's long-standing commitment to a two-State solution as the only path to lasting peace and security for the peoples of Israel and Palestine.
