Zolotov announced the re-establishment of tank units in the Russian Guard
Rosgvardiya recreated tank units in its composition. This was announced on September 11 by the head of the security department, Viktor Zolotov, following the results of the exercises of the Rosgvardiya group of troops in the Ryazan region.
"The head of the department noted that due to the expansion of the range of "heavy" weapons used by the troops, tank units have been recreated as part of the Rosgvardiya," the message on the Rosgvardiya website says.
It is noted that during the exercises, Rosgvardiya specialists showed joint maneuvers of special forces, artillery and tank units. According to Zolotov, since the beginning of the special military operation, the Rosgvardiya troops have undergone significant changes, which has significantly improved their combat readiness and strengthened the control system.
The head of the Russian Guard also noted the increase in the firepower of the department's artillery due to the expansion of the range of "heavy" weapons. According to Zolotov, the artillery units of the Rosgvardiya completed more than 60,000 fire and tactical tasks during their military training.
The head of the department also clarified that in the last two years, the Russian Guard has improved its artillery armament. Thus, anti-tank guns, self-propelled artillery guns and multiple rocket launchers were adopted.
In August 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which the Russian Guard received the right to have heavy military equipment in service. So, the changes relate to the law "On the National Guard Troops." According to the document, the terms "weapons" and "military equipment" are replaced by "armament" and "military equipment".
Rosgvardiya official representative Valery Gribakin said on June 27, 2023, that tanks and artillery in service with the service would help to act more effectively during the special operation in Ukraine and respond to new hostile challenges. He recalled that until the early 2000s, the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, of which the Rosgvardiya is the successor, had their own tank units. Subsequently, due to the reform of the troops, they abandoned them, Gribakin said.
