Likhachev reported on two prepared agreements on the creation of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan

Two intergovernmental agreements have been prepared for the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan, concerning the creation of the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in the country. This was announced on May 27 by the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, to Izvestia columnist Viktor Sineok.

"Two intergovernmental agreements have been prepared for the signing of Vladimir Vladimirovich's visit, the so—called station agreement, directly on the creation of a nuclear power plant, which describes the technical appearance of the project," Likhachev said.

The Russian leader arrived in Kazakhstan on May 27 on a state visit. As his adviser Yuri Ushakov reported, on May 28, the presidents of the two countries, Putin and his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, will hold talks in both narrow and expanded format. Putin will also take part in the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Likhachev clarified on May 15 that the Balkhash NPP in Kazakhstan would be built on the basis of Russian technologies, while Rosatom would become the key vendor of the entire project. He noted that a project of this scale almost always requires intergovernmental agreements, as well as commercial and contractual obligations.
