President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree pardoning 18 people convicted in the republic. This was announced on March 5 by the press service of the Belarusian leader.

"President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree pardoning 18 convicts, including 15 people who committed extremist crimes," the website of the President of Belarus says.

Most of those pardoned are women (11 people). Six of them have children, including those with disabilities and in need of ongoing medical rehabilitation.

In addition, Lukashenko pardoned two married couples and a woman in the last stages of pregnancy. One convict on the list committed a crime at the age of 16, the press service of the Belarusian president indicates.

All the convicts applied for clemency. They confessed their guilt, repented and "promised to lead a law-abiding lifestyle."

Last time, Lukashenko signed a decree on pardon on December 13 last year. The list includes 123 people. The decision was made by the President of Belarus in connection with requests from the heads of other states, as well as "based on humanitarian principles and universal human and family values." So, opposition politicians Viktor Babariko and Maria Kolesnikova were released. More than 100 of the pardoned criminals were sent to Ukraine in exchange for wounded Russians and captured Belarusians.
