In Moscow, more than 260 vehicles were confiscated for state revenue from malicious traffic violators by court verdicts in 2025. The Moscow prosecutor's office announced this in its channel in the MAX messenger.
Vehicle confiscation is applied for violations such as repeated driving while intoxicated or refusal to undergo a medical examination for intoxication (art. 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The sanction is also applied for speeding over 60 km/h or entering the lane of oncoming traffic by a driver previously deprived of his license (Article 264.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), for driving a car by a person previously deprived of his driver's license, including for causing serious injury to health or death of the victim as a result of an accident (Article 264.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), in the department.
In November last year, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation reported that over the past 2.5 years, more than 33 thousand cars had been confiscated in cases of repeated driving under the influence of alcohol in Russia. Over 5.5 thousand units of confiscated equipment were transferred to the free zone, 146 units for the development of new regions, and 19 more to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Earlier, on October 16, it was reported that the third Court of Cassation of general jurisdiction allowed cars to be seized from drivers in a state of intoxication, regardless of their financial situation. The court stressed that the financial situation of the violator does not affect the application of the norm, two conditions are sufficient: the ownership of the vehicle to the convicted person and its use in committing a crime under Articles 264.1 or 264.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
