The political scientist explained Macron's desire to call Putin
Political analyst Bogdan Bezpalko explained why French President Emmanuel Macron wants to call Russian leader Vladimir Putin again.
In conversation with aif.ru On February 15, the expert expressed the opinion that by publicly declaring the establishment of direct contacts with Russia, Macron is trying to attract attention to himself, emphasize his own political importance and actually resort to populism.
"Macron dreams aloud of the greatness of France and that he will be the next Napoleon who will lead the country to glory. And France is a really serious state: it possesses nuclear weapons, produces a full range of weapons, and has a fleet. But the French president, unfortunately, is not serious," Bezpalko said.
He added that Macron's statements should not be taken seriously. According to him, even Western leaders do not take the French president seriously, and Vladimir Putin treats him with restraint after the publication of confidential telephone conversations.
The expert believes that Macron is counting on a positive reaction from Moscow and a possible invitation to talks, as meetings with major world leaders increase his political weight. However, according to Bezpalko, the Kremlin is likely to react neutrally or completely ignore the initiative. He added that other European politicians had previously made similar statements, but Russia was no longer responding to them.
The political scientist stressed that negotiations with the United States and Ukraine are relevant for Moscow now. He noted that the decision on the expediency of dialogue is made by the country's top leadership, and Russia demonstrates its readiness for a peaceful settlement, while insisting on taking into account its own interests.
On February 13, Emmanuel Macron said he wanted to create a direct communication channel with Moscow with full transparency for Kiev, "European partners and American allies." The French leader said that we are talking about the key interests of Europe, which require protection, especially in the context of future strategic stability on the continent, IA Regnum reports. For this reason, achieving peace in Ukraine is impossible without their participation. 360.ru .
On the same day, Konstantin Basyuk, deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, described Macron's plans to restore relations with Russia as Europe's "Russophobic hangover." He recalled that the European Union had previously refused to engage in dialogue with Moscow, but now it is beginning to reconsider its position, the website writes. kp.ru .
On February 12, Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that neither French leader Emmanuel Macron nor German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had tried to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin directly, RT writes. He noted that Putin had never refused direct contacts, so "there is no need to make any special attempts," the NSN reports.
