Smolensk authorities canceled classes in schools due to a heating network breakout
Five schools and nine kindergartens are temporarily closed in Smolensk after an accident on the main heating network. This was announced on February 6 by the mayor Alexander Novikov in his Telegram channel.
According to him, the explosion occurred on a section of the thermal network of JSC RIR Energo — Smolenskaya Generation near the intersection of Babushkina and September 25 streets.
"Currently, the company is carrying out emergency recovery work to eliminate the leak and restore the hydraulic system," Novikov said.
The mayor clarified that due to the accident, heating was temporarily turned off for some consumers, and it is planned to restore hydraulic operation by 8:00 Moscow time.
"In order to minimize discomfort for children, classes in schools that fall within the shutdown zone are canceled on February 6," he added.
After the start of the boiler houses in Bodaibo, Irkutsk region, accidents on heating networks began again. The mayor of the city and the district, Yevgeny Yumashev, said on February 5 that as a result of a heating main rupture on Sadovaya Street, the boiler house had to be temporarily shut down, while emergency crews were working on site and shut-off valves were being replaced. He also reported on preparations for the launch of another boiler house and the phased connection of residential buildings.
