Sales of new passenger cars in Russia decreased by 10% in January

By the end of January 2026, 80.6 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 9.5% less than in the same month of 2025. This is stated in the report of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on February 4.

Lada is still the market leader, its share was about a quarter (a year ago it exceeded 30%). In the first month of this year, 19.6 thousand new passenger cars of the domestic brand were sold.

The second was the Haval brand, which once again proved to be the most popular foreign brand. Sales amounted to 10.7 thousand units. The Russian brand Tenet (8949 units) was among the top three, with a share exceeding 11%.

Geely (4,720 units) and Belgee (2,946 units) rounded out the top five. The top ten brands were completed by Changan (2,380 units), Toyota (2,118 units), Jetour (2,113 units), Mazda (2,098 units) and Solaris (1,536 units).

Experts noticed that Mazda got into the top 10 for the first time in a very long period. This brand is not officially present on the Russian car market. At a low base, its sales grew the most — more than 10 times. In addition, Solaris (+18.9%), Belgee (+62.2%) and Toyota (+79.2%) showed positive dynamics at the beginning of the year.

According to the results of the second winter month, five brands are "in the red": Lada (-28.7% compared to January last year), Haval (-9.3%), Geely (-24.1%), Changan (-53.2%) and Jetour (-4.6%).

Chinese cars are being replaced by Russian models

On February 2, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation reported that by the end of January 2026, 91.4 thousand new cars (under the age of three) were sold in Russia, which is 11% less than in January last year. The market volume in the passenger car segment was 81.9 thousand units (-7% compared to January 2025).
