Hasek criticized the head of FIFA for wanting to return Russia to world football
On February 3, two-time Stanley Cup winner Dominik Hasek criticized the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino after his statement about the possible return of Russian teams to international tournaments.
"This president is either incredibly stupid, or he supports Russia in its goals. What he says actually means supporting Russia's actions and escalating the conflict. We have to stop this!" wrote Hasek on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to The Times, the FIFA council is not going to discuss the admission of Russian teams yet due to fears of criticism from European countries.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on February 2 that it was necessary to consider lifting the ban on Russian teams. He added that the opportunity for Russian boys and girls to play football in other parts of Europe would be beneficial.
On February 3, the Kremlin agreed with Infantino's opinion that Russia and other countries should not be excluded from competitions because of politics. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that it was "high time for the FIFA organization to think about the return of the Russian national team to international football competitions.
