The doctor talked about products that are useful for brain function
Foods high in omega-3 support the cognitive functions of the brain, improving memory and concentration. This was announced on January 27 by Galina Volkova, head of the Department of Medical Prevention at Odintsovo Regional Hospital, internist and nutritionist.
"No product can make us smart. But there are food groups that support cognitive functions: fatty marine fish such as salmon, mackerel, and herring are sources of omega-3. And omega-3 is a structural component of neuronal membranes that improves memory, concentration, and reduces the risk of cognitive impairment," Volkova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
To maintain the neuroplasticity of the brain, Volkova recommended including nuts in the diet, especially walnuts: they contain healthy fats, vitamin E and antioxidants. In addition, an important substance for the brain is choline, which is found in eggs and is necessary for the synthesis of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for memory and learning.
The nutritionist also noted the benefits of berries: blueberries, blueberries and cranberries contain flavonoids that improve brain microcirculation and reduce oxidative stress. A stable glucose level, according to Volkova, is provided by whole grains, and green leafy vegetables such as arugula, spinach and broccoli contain folate and vitamin K, which positively affect the speed of thinking and memory.
On January 22, Candidate of Medical Sciences, doctor, clinical pharmacologist Tatiana Molostova told how to suspect vitamin deficiency in winter. The specialist warned that unpleasant symptoms in the cold season are often associated with a deficiency of vitamins and minerals.
