In 2025, 41% of Russians engaged in construction or repairs involved professional craftsmen. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, one in two residents already uses the services of specialists, in other cities with a population of about 40%, and in settlements with fewer than 1 million people - 35%. Evgeny Petrov, Director of Leman PRO services, told Izvestia on January 22 how to choose a professional and reliable master and what to look for.

According to him, the demand for the services of craftsmen is growing against the background of consumers' desire to save time and reduce risks during repairs. At the same time, the ways to find specialists remain different: from recommendations from acquaintances and private ads to online platforms and services of retailers. Each of these options has its pros and cons, from the subjectivity of reviews and the lack of guarantees to fixed conditions and the company's responsibility for the result.

The expert stressed that when choosing a master on your own, it is important to carefully study his profile and ads. He called a clear specialization, a detailed description of the work and deadlines, real photos of completed projects and transparent pricing the key signs of professionalism. General formulations without specifics, according to him, should alert the customer.

"It's not so much the number of stars that matters here, but the content of the comments and the master's reaction to them. Reviews can provide a lot of useful information about the master's approach and behavior, attitude to work and clients. The combination of positive and neutral reviews looks natural, but extremely enthusiastic reviews without details, similar in style, may indicate "cheating". Pay attention to how the master reacts to criticism in the reviews: a constructive and calm response indicates professionalism, aggression or ignoring, on the contrary, signal potential risks," Petrov explained.

At the final stage of the selection, as the specialist notes, it is necessary to communicate personally with the candidate, discuss experience, terms, payment terms and guarantees. Even when working "on a recommendation," he advises that agreements be recorded in writing — in a contract, estimate, or correspondence. This helps to reduce risks and protect the interests of the client in case of disputes.

Lemana PRO also noted that the registration of services through a large retailer makes the process more transparent: deadlines, costs and guarantees are fixed in advance in the documents, and the company is responsible for the result. This format is becoming more and more in demand amid the growth of the repair services market and customer expectations for the quality and safety of work.

In December, Fyodor Vasiliev, the founder and CEO of GLAVNAB, told Izvestia the trends in wall decoration for 2026. According to him, the key direction will be the concept of full immersion, which involves covering not only the walls, but also the ceiling with a single canvas or style. At the same time, the accent wall will fade into the background as an outdated technique, giving way to an atmosphere that envelops a person from all sides.
