Chinese cars predicted a reduction in market share in Russia

The share of new Chinese cars in the Russian market may fall below 40% by the end of the first quarter of 2026, and their monthly sales during this period may be below 35 thousand cars. This forecast was given by analysts at Gazprombank Auto Leasing, TASS reported on January 19.

According to experts, sales of Chinese cars in Russia will be affected by a significant increase in sales of models assembled from Chinese components, but formally Russian (Tenet) and Belarusian (Belgee) brands.

It is noted that in 2025, sales of Chinese brand cars in Russia decreased by 26%, to 672.4 thousand units, and their share fell from 58% to 51%. At the same time, in December, the share was only 42%.

In addition, experts noted that the only Chinese brand that sold more than 100,000 cars in Russia last year was Haval (173.4 thousand units). In 2024, there were five such brands.

Chinese cars are being replaced by Russian models

As Sergey Tselikov, director of Autostat, said on January 14, sales of Chinese-built cars in Russia decreased by 38% in 2025, with a total of 489,000 such cars sold. At the same time, sales of Russian-built cars in 2025 increased by 8%, while the overall car market declined. So, during the year, 701.7 thousand new cars were sold in the Russian Federation, rolled off Russian assembly lines. Their market share increased to 52.9%.
