The rector of the Moscow Art Theater Studio School, Honored Artist of Russia Igor Zolotovitsky, was a very witty and cheerful person. This was announced to Izvestia on January 14 by People's Artist of Russia, director Andrey Zhitinkin.

"This is, of course, a shock, because I do not know a more witty and cheerful person in our environment. <… > He joked in such a way that then the whole of Moscow passed some of his witticisms from mouth to mouth after these wonderful evenings at the Actor's House," he noted.

According to the director, Zolotovitsky could make any actor work, which made him a good teacher. Zhitinkin also added that he was a caring rector, despite being a little strict with his students, whom the rector prepared for "tough competition conditions" in the acting field.

At the same time, the director called Zolotovitsky an orchestra man because of his sense of humor and professional acting in cinema and theater. Zhitinkin noted that the death of the rector of the Moscow Art Theater Studio School is a terrible loss for the Art Theater, since the best students graduated from the Moscow Art Theater.

"I just can't imagine how they're going to be there right now, so I'm just expressing my condolences to everyone, because he's so, you know, irreplaceable," the director summed up.

Zolotovitsky died at the age of 65. On January 14, the Moscow Art Theater Studio School expressed its condolences to the rector's relatives and friends. The date and time of Zolotovitsky's farewell will be announced separately. It was clarified that the cause of death of the artist was cancer.

Zolotovitsky was born on June 18, 1961 in Tashkent. He graduated from the Moscow Art Theater Studio school in 1983. At the same time, he began working at the Moscow Art Theater, and after the division of the troupe, he remained in the team led by Oleg Yefremov, now the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, where he played dozens of roles and was involved in key performances of the repertoire.

In 2002, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia, and in 2020 — Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
