A woman who gave birth in a Novokuznetsk medical facility told about the ill-treatment of staff

On January 13, a resident of Novokuznetsk told Izvestia about serious medical errors and negligence of doctors at hospital No. 1 during childbirth in 2023, due to which her child was born with a congenital heart defect.

"They (the doctors delivering the baby. — Ed.) they mixed up the pills, gave them pills for blood pressure. And she came up to me, the nurse, and said, oh, I'm sorry, I got it mixed up. The child started hypoxia, my child started dying," the woman said.

When the girl entered the hospital with contractions, the staff treated her with disdain and insults. During a painful examination, her complaints were answered with a rude remark.

According to a resident of Novokuznetsk, to "jam" contractions, she was mistakenly given pressure pills, after which she lost consciousness. The child started hypoxia, and the woman in serious condition was urgently transported to maternity hospital No. 2, where she underwent a cesarean section. The baby, who was born with a heart defect, immediately went to the intensive care unit, where doctors at another clinic attributed this condition to the effect of improperly prescribed pills.

According to the child's mother, despite the availability of all documents, including the conclusion from the maternity hospital no.2 about her critical condition upon admission, the court dismissed her claim, considering that she was "to blame" for taking medications, and the documents of the first maternity hospital indicated that she was "dissatisfied with medical care and left voluntarily."

The girl also said that in February 2024, her cousin gave birth in the same hospital. During childbirth, the baby was dropped on the floor. The baby was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit, where the mother was not allowed for a month, after which the baby died of cerebral edema.

Two criminal cases have been initiated

Obstetric hospital No. 1 of the city clinical hospital No. 1 named after G.P. Kurbatov in Novokuznetsk temporarily stopped receiving patients due to an excess incidence of respiratory infection. Later it became known about the death of nine babies in the hospital during the New Year holidays.

On January 13, the UK confirmed the death of newborns. As the source of Izvestia noted, all infants were diagnosed with either intrauterine or neonatal infection, which gave critical complications.

A criminal case has been opened into the incident in accordance with Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code ("Causing death by negligence"), Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code ("Negligence"). The governor of Kuzbass, Ilya Seredyuk, temporarily dismissed the chief physician of the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital.
