The mother of the deceased baby in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital told about the infection of the child

The mother of one of the babies who died in January at Novokuznetsk Maternity Hospital No. 1, Arina Bedareva, told Izvestia on January 13 that her child died of infection after birth.

Bedareva clarified that her child was born on December 22, but on January 10, the newborn died. At the same time, the pregnancy proceeded without serious complications, but due to edema, she was hospitalized, after which the doctors decided to perform an emergency caesarean section, and then the child was immediately placed in intensive care.

"I went to the hospital with the usual swelling on my legs. <… > My obstetrician at the clinic advised me to lie down and watch. As a result, they abruptly discovered some kind of virus <... > As a result, they [put] it on the table, cut it up, the child was taken out and killed," said a patient at the maternity hospital.

According to Bedareva, the doctors said that the child "got sick" after birth, but did not give clear explanations of what exactly happened and what were the sources of infection. The woman claims that the doctors officially informed her about cardiac arrest, but the pathologist's conclusion indicates infection as the cause of death.

"The doctor told me that my child got sick when he was already born, that is, his intrauterine pathologies, which he had, had nothing to do with his cause of death," the girl said.

The woman in labor also reported serious violations in the postpartum department. She clarified that the nurses performed injections without gloves, did not always give out prescribed medications and ignored the patients' requests for help. At the same time, there were no such problems in the antenatal units.

"The postnatal department, the third floor is a caesarean section, the entire floor. To put it mildly, I would never advise anyone in my life, friend or foe, to be on this floor. <… > Terrible separation," she concluded.

Two criminal cases have been initiated

Earlier that day, obstetric hospital No. 1 of the G.P. Kurbatov City Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Novokuznetsk temporarily stopped receiving patients. It was clarified that this decision was made in connection with the excess incidence of respiratory infection.

Shortly after, it became known about the deaths of nine babies in the hospital. The Investigative Committee also confirmed the deaths of newborns. A criminal case was opened into the incident on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code ("Causing death by negligence"), Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code ("Negligence").

Also, the governor of Kuzbass, Ilya Seredyuk, temporarily dismissed the chief physician of the hospital in whose maternity hospital the babies died. The Izvestia source noted that all infants were diagnosed with either intrauterine or neonatal infection. It was these infections that caused the critical complications.
