A patient at a maternity hospital in Novokuznetsk spoke about the actions of doctors during childbirth

Kristina Shabelnikova, a patient at the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital where nine children died, told Izvestia on January 13 that she also gave birth at the facility back in 2018.

According to the girl, during the contractions she was urgently sent for a caesarean section. But after the operation, her temperature did not drop for a long time.

"And then it turned out that everything was just festering inside me. <...> They didn't really explain anything to me there. They quickly transferred me to another hospital, opened up the whole thing and took it off," she said.

At the same time, Shabelnikova clarified that she had given birth to a premature baby with severe asphyxia, but the doctors, according to her, behaved professionally.

Meanwhile, other women in labor complain about the hospital. One of them wrote that she almost lost her baby — after giving birth, he was transferred to the intensive care unit.

"I gave birth there in 2018, my daughter was pushed out, although this is forbidden, thank God everything is fine with my daughter, but you know it's very sad," another woman in labor wrote online.

Two criminal cases have been initiated

Obstetric hospital No. 1 of the G.P. Kurbatov City Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Novokuznetsk has temporarily stopped receiving patients. As clarified on January 13, this decision was made due to the excess incidence of respiratory infection.

Shortly after, it became known about the deaths of nine babies in the hospital. The Investigative Committee also confirmed the deaths of newborns. A criminal case was opened into the incident on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code ("Causing death by negligence"), Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code ("Negligence").

The governor of Kuzbass, Ilya Seredyuk, temporarily dismissed the head physician of the hospital in whose maternity hospital the babies died. The Izvestia source noted that all infants were diagnosed with either intrauterine or neonatal infection. It was these infections that caused the critical complications.
