An expert on digital etiquette gave tips on online behavior
Olga Lukinova, an expert in digital communications, spoke about the rules of politeness, respect for personal boundaries and maintaining mental balance in a world where online and offline have long been intertwined.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, January 12, she explained that the problem of digital well-being is not related to the technologies themselves, but to how people interact with them. According to her, the digital environment today often consumes too much energy, is annoying and tiring, so it is important to understand how to keep feeling good in it.
She noted that the constant comparison of oneself with "perfect" images from social networks, the stream of disturbing news and endless scrolling are really exhausting. The expert sees a way out in mindfulness: regular pauses without gadgets are necessary for the psyche and significantly increase the chances of feeling better. In her opinion, hanging in the feed for a long time often does not indicate interest, but fatigue or emotional burnout and should be a signal to change activity — for example, to go for a walk or just relax without a phone.
Lukinova also stressed that digital etiquette does not restrict freedom, but, on the contrary, reduces anxiety and helps to feel more confident, since a clear understanding of acceptable norms simplifies communication. She added that today, digital reputation is often more important than formal rules, because it is on the web that work, friends and social connections are located. Separately, the expert drew attention to the ability to apologize, calling it a sign of inner strength, and stressed that politeness and respect for others remain key values even in the online space.
Earlier, Albina Kholgova, president of the National Association of Experts on Business Ethics, Etiquette and Protocol (NADEP), told what topics are not worth joking about. Kholgova recommended avoiding jokes about appearance, age, health, personal life, race, as well as any unfortunate experience of a particular person.
