State Duma deputy Dmitry Novikov said that the statements of the Ukrainian authorities about the possible timing of the start of negotiations on a settlement, according to their wording, indicate that the country is not ready for an immediate dialogue at any moment. Thus, the parliamentarian reacted to the words of the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba that the start of negotiations is likely in February.

"To thoughtful observers from Western countries, from NATO countries, this should demonstrate Kiev's unwillingness to engage in dialogue, to accelerate the process," Novikov stressed in an interview with Lenta.Ru on Monday, January 12th.

He noted that the current leadership of Ukraine, in his opinion, is primarily focused on extending its own powers and prolonging the confrontation, as this may be financially beneficial. According to him, the issues of the country's future are secondary to them compared to the preservation of power, guarantees of personal security and access to financial flows, which, as he believes, are provided with the support of NATO countries.

Earlier on January 12, Kuleba said that a new intensification of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, according to his assessment, is possible at the end of February. At the same time, the ex-minister noted that he does not expect a cease-fire before this date. According to him, after that, a short-term "window" is expected in the summer, followed by a new increase in activity at the end of next winter. Life.ru .

Kuleba also noted that if Ukraine makes territorial concessions, the country's population will be ready to accept it. The former Foreign Minister of Ukraine added that the results of opinion polls, which reflect the opinion of society on the settlement, differ significantly from the real thoughts of "people on the streets and in kitchens."

On the same day, EC representative Paula Pinho said during a briefing in Brussels that the European Commission would have to enter into negotiations with the Russian authorities in the foreseeable future. She added that to date, the parties have not yet reached this level. 360.ru .

In November, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia still declares its readiness for negotiations with Ukraine, however, in the current conditions, they, according to him, are legally impossible. He stressed that dialogue is possible only with those who are really ready for it, and also pointed out the fundamental importance of international recognition of any agreements reached. kp.ru .
