Finland's decision to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Production and Storage of Anti-personnel Mines has entered into force. This was announced on January 10 by the Yle broadcaster.

"Finland can now put anti—personnel mines back into operation," the article says.

It is specified that the Finnish government officially renounced the agreement on July 10, 2025. This was preceded by similar steps from countries such as Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.

Lithuania officially withdrew from the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of anti-personnel mines on December 27, 2025.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, linked the statements of the Baltic countries about withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention with the benefits for NATO. According to her, these states are aimed at developing cooperation with manufacturers of antipersonnel mines from the United States.
