Iran has denied reports about the seizure of Malekshahi and Abdanan by protesters.
On January 7, the Iranian Tasnim news agency denied reports that protesters had seized the cities of Abdanan and Malekshahi in Ilam province.
"The protesters terrorized the population by setting fire to tires and trash cans in several blocks in the center of Ilam city. Fortunately, these actions were stopped with the arrival of security forces and police," the article says.
Currently, operations to identify and arrest the main perpetrators of acts of vandalism are continuing.
Fox News channel reported on January 6 that Iranian protesters had actually captured the towns of Abdanan and Malekshahi in Ilam province, continuing mass demonstrations amid economic and political discontent. The protests were accompanied by increased security measures, including tear gas and air guns, as well as the intervention of security forces in hospitals.
Later it was reported that 36 people were killed in Iran and more than 2,000 people were arrested as a result of mass protests in 92 cities of the country. It was noted that attacks on medical centers had begun.
