In Russia, they will not produce food products from insects and offer them to people, since such components can only appear in animal and fish feeds. This was announced on January 6 by Yulia Ogloblina, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues.

"It is excluded. I declare this responsibly. This is exclusively for fish and animal feed. That's it, period. In Russia, they have not eaten and will not eat insects. Never," she told TASS.

The parliamentarian noted that in Russia such a diet is "unacceptable and will never be acceptable," despite any research on the possibility of such an alternative protein source. According to Ogloblina, the popularity of insects in Europe, where five species of beetles have been legalized for human consumption, indicates problems in local agriculture.

"It's so bad that you have to eat crickets, bugs, and spiders. Thank God, everything is fine with us. There are many lands. Therefore, we are only for our real Russian food," the deputy stressed.

In March 2024, Olga Trofimova, Associate Professor of the Department of General Biology and Bioecology at the State University of Education, told Izvestia which products contain insect-based additives and what their potential danger is.

For example, cochineal, which lives on cacti, is added to the bright red dye carmine (E120) from small insects. The shellac added by confectioners to the glaze is a product of the vital activity of worms from Thailand and India. The first is assigned a low level of danger, the second is considered harmless.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
