The media reported the sale of tuna in Japan for a record amount
At a traditional auction in Tokyo, bluefin tuna from Aomori Prefecture was sold for a record price of about 255 million rubles. This was reported on January 5 by the NHK TV channel.
The traditional first auction of the new year at the Toyosu Market in Tokyo was held on January 5 and became historic. Bluefin tuna weighing 243 kg, caught in Aomori Prefecture, was sold for a record amount of 510.3 million yen (about 255 million rubles). This is the highest price for tuna since statistics began in 1999, significantly exceeding the previous record of 333.6 million yen (167 million rubles) set in 2019.
It is specified that the auction began early in the morning and was held under the lively shouts of the participants. Tuna, both fresh and frozen, were lined up in the market, and sellers greeted buyers. The winning bidder was a sushi restaurant chain with headquarters in Tokyo, which offered a record amount. The company's president, Kimura Kiyoshi, said he was a little surprised by such a high price, but expressed a desire that as many people as possible could taste this exclusive tuna and feel better.
"When I saw this tuna, I just couldn't pass it by, so I won the auction," said the auction winner, president of the sushi restaurant chain.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper reported on December 30 that scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have developed a new species of carp, almost completely devoid of intermuscular bones, which usually makes fish difficult to eat. Using the CRISPR genome editing technology, the researchers deactivated the gene responsible for the growth of these bones, while preserving the basic skeleton of the fish.
