The Chinese Foreign Ministry thanked Russia for its support on the Taiwan issue.

China is grateful to Russia and other countries that have supported the State's position on the Taiwan issue. This was announced on December 31 by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian during a press conference.

"Dozens of countries have expressed their support for China's position in various forms, pointing out that Taiwan is an integral part of China's territory. <...> We highly appreciate China's firm support from all countries," the diplomat said in response to a journalist's question about China's reaction to support from Russia, Cuba, Venezuela and other countries.

Lin Jian noted China's determination to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests. He added that any provocations that cross the line in this matter will be met with a decisive rebuff.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 28 that Russia opposes Taiwan's independence in any form and considers the island an integral part of China. The Russian Federation proceeds from the fact that the Taiwan problem is an internal matter of the PRC and Beijing has legitimate grounds to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
