The optometrist warned about the harm of garlands for vision
The intense flickering of LEDs, especially in low-quality garlands, can have a negative effect on the visual system, causing a number of unpleasant symptoms and even exacerbating existing eye diseases. Anton Kazantsev, ophthalmologist and CEO of VISTA Ophthalmological Center, warned about this on Friday, December 26.
According to the doctor, the main problem is the constant adaptation of vision to flickering.
"Our eyes are designed in such a way that they continuously adjust to changes in lighting. When the light flashes on and off, the eye muscles, especially those responsible for focusing, are forced to work in an enhanced mode. This leads to overexertion, which manifests itself in the form of a headache, a feeling of pressure in the eyes, redness and a feeling of "sand" under the eyelids," the specialist said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Kazantsev added that twinkling garlands can affect the general condition of the body.
"The disturbance of biorhythms caused by artificial lighting in the evening can lead to sleep disorders, decreased immunity and general deterioration of well-being. All this, in turn, affects the health of the eyes," explained the ophthalmologist.
To minimize the negative effects of garlands on vision, the ophthalmologist advised choosing jewelry labeled "flicker-free" or PWM-controlled above 1000 Hertz, as they provide stable light. He noted that it is advisable to give preference to devices with warm white light (2700K), which contains less blue spectrum.
On December 25, the founder of the design bureau, interior architect Victoria Kiorsak, said that light in the interior is not just a functional element, but a key factor affecting a person's psycho-emotional state, well-being, and even the aging process, betrays RT.
The expert noted that garlands with a warm spectrum create the effect of a living fire, their soft flickering relieves tension and gives a feeling of celebration for no reason.
In turn, the ophthalmologist of the highest category, professor, Doctor of medical sciences Tatiana Shilova said in an interview with NSN that warm light is usually perceived by the eyes more gently than cold, it irritates the eyesight and nervous system less, especially in the evening and at night.
