- The Ministry of Industry and Trade introduced unscheduled inspections of electronics to combat counterfeiting
Additional unscheduled inspections of electronics will be introduced in Russia to combat counterfeit products. This was announced on December 26 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
"The institute of post—verification assumes that Rosstandart is authorized to conduct monitoring activities with the subsequent issuance of an opinion on compliance," Kommersant reports the agency.
According to the draft, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology will have the right to conduct scheduled inspections no more than once a year, as well as unscheduled inspections no more than once every three months. The aim of the initiative is to combat situations where manufacturers use foreign components but receive the status of Russian products.
It is reported that not only compliance with localization requirements will be assessed, but also the results of earlier examinations conducted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. If the inspection reveals violations, the products may be excluded from the register and lose the right to participate in public procurement.
In 2025, approximately two-thirds of iPhones (about 70%) entered Russia under gray schemes in violation of tax and customs laws, while law-abiding sellers using parallel imports pay all the required fees, one of the retailers told Izvestia on December 24. The iPhone grey market in Russia continues to grow: illegal sales channels (for example, online platforms and small non-chain stores) account for about 70%, confirms Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group.
