- The Interior Ministry revealed a scheme forcing Russians to call fraudsters with "hacking" of Public Services"
Since the beginning of this year, fraudsters have been actively using a scheme to deceive Russians with the alleged hacking of their accounts on "Public Services" — they sent victims a message with a fake "technical support" number and a request to call it. This was reported to TASS on December 22 in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
So, in November, the police received an appeal from a citizen who was contacted in the Telegram messenger by a man who introduced himself as an accountant at a housing and construction cooperative (HBC). He asked her to follow the link, after which she was sent a notification about the hacking of the page on Gosuslugi.
The message indicated a subscriber number for communication, which was answered by a technical support specialist. The victim entered into a conversation with him, after which she was allegedly called by employees of Roskomnadzor and the FSB, who informed her about the suppression of an unauthorized attempt to debit money from the account. Then they convinced the woman to transfer funds in the amount of 1.3 million rubles to bank cards controlled by them.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation a day earlier listed five ways to identify a telephone fraudster. So, according to the department's documents, attackers are often betrayed by the fact that they initiate calls themselves. In addition, they usually start talking about money, ask the interlocutor to provide personal information, put pressure on him and use emotionality — they begin to intimidate their victim with criminal prosecution or make lucrative offers to her.
