Lavrov discussed bilateral cooperation with the Algerian Foreign Minister
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf on the sidelines of the second ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum. This was announced on December 20 by the press service of the Russian diplomatic mission.
It is noted that the representatives of the countries discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation. Lavrov also noted the importance of the diplomatic relations established with Algeria, which were established in 1962, and stressed the successful cooperation in such areas as energy, metallurgy and the automotive industry.
Before the talks, the ministers hugged and shook hands. Lavrov also called his Algerian counterpart a "dear friend" and clarified that he was pleased to meet again with a man with whom Russia had experienced many historical events.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that African countries have huge potential and play a significant role in global politics. He noted that the Russian Federation attaches great importance to the development of equal and mutually beneficial relations with African partners.
Lavrov also clarified that Russia is committed to unlocking the potential of cooperation with African countries. According to the minister, the Russian-African partnership is growing in various fields, including political dialogue, trade and economic ties and humanitarian relations.
