Czech President appoints new Prime Minister Andrej Babis' government
Czech President Petr Pavel has appointed a new prime Minister, Andrej Babis, to the government. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on December 15.
"The government of the new Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis came to power on Monday after winning the October elections," the publication says.
It is noted that the government coalition was able to form a cabinet of 16 members following the results of the elections. The ANO party (ANO, "Action of Dissatisfied Citizens") took eight posts and the post of prime minister, the Avtomobilists for Themselves party — four, and the Freedom and Direct Democracy party - three.
According to the agency, Pavel called on the new ruling coalition, which includes the parties ANO, Motorists for Themselves and Freedom and Direct Democracy, to govern the country responsibly and recognize the advantages of its membership in NATO and the European Union (EU).
According to him, if the Czech Republic were not part of the alliance and the European Union, the republic would be "less economically prosperous and stable."
On December 9, Reuters reported that Pavel appointed ANO party leader Babis as the country's new prime minister. It was noted that the President of the country also called on the Prime Minister to maintain strong relations with the European Union and NATO on security issues.
Prior to that, on November 6, Pavel accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Petr Fiala's government and instructed his cabinet to temporarily continue its work until a new cabinet is formed. It was clarified that he asked Fiala that the transfer of cases from all departments take place calmly and the new government begin work as soon as possible "for the benefit of citizens."
The ANO party led by Babis won the parliamentary elections on October 4. According to the results of counting the results at 99.55% of polling stations, the political force won 34.69% of the votes in the elections. Babis went on vacation on December 19, instead of participating in negotiations on the formation of a future government. Later, on November 3, the ANO, SPD and Motorists parties signed an agreement to form a government coalition. The association was supported by 108 out of 200 deputies.
