483 road accidents occurred in Russia over the weekend

Over the past weekend, 483 traffic accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 64 people were killed and 630 injured. 57 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 15 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 113 road accidents, 50 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 63 outside their area of operation, seven pedestrians were killed, 111 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 16 underage pedestrians, half of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas. 53 accidents involving minors were registered on Russian roads over the weekend, in which 63 young road users, including 44 passengers, were injured. One child passenger was killed. 21 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which four people were killed, and 36 more road users required medical attention. 11 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

In the Republic of Tatarstan, on 239 km of the Kazan-Orenburg—Akbulak federal highway R—239, an SUV driver was distracted from driving in a snowstorm by a mobile phone call, skidded uncontrollably, and then drove the car into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a truck. In turn, the semi-trailer of the truck also carried out the oncoming lane after the collision, where a minibus with 13 passengers crashed into it following the car of the culprit of the accident. Two bus passengers were killed in the accident. The drivers of the truck and bus, seven passengers of the intercity minibus, as well as two passengers of the crossover were injured and ended up in the hospital. The driver of the SUV and another passenger of the bus were sent for outpatient treatment after medical care.

In addition, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions.

Thus, in the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Orenburg region, due to snowfall, blizzard and strong wind, restrictions on the movement of trucks and buses on sections of the federal highway M-5 Ural from 1285 km to 1363 km (Bashkiria) and from 1195 km to 1251 km (Orenburg region). The restriction has now been lifted. In the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, the movement of trucks on the A-161 Vladikavkaz—Nizhny Lars — border with the Republic of Georgia highway has resumed in the direction of departure from the Russian Federation.

The State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that motorists, when planning long-distance trips, first familiarize themselves with the weather forecast and media information about possible overlap sites, outlining detours in advance. In case of traffic restrictions or closure of road sections due to worsening weather, the relevant information is promptly posted on the website of the State Traffic Inspectorate, as well as on the official pages of the service units on social networks.

"We would like to draw the attention of drivers to the fact that they should be extremely careful when driving in winter. It is necessary to avoid sudden rash maneuvers and lane changes on a snowy road and in conditions of ice. It is necessary to observe the interval and the increased distance between vehicles, as well as choose the speed limit depending on weather conditions and the traffic situation," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for the Promotion of road safety and prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The State Traffic Inspectorate also reminds that in conditions of insufficient visibility, it is necessary to use fog lights, and during precipitation, reduce speed as much as possible and use "emergency" signals. emergency alarm system. If the weather worsens, you should refrain from using private cars, and in urban conditions, switch to public transport, the department notes.

Earlier, on December 11, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reminded residents of the new regions of the Russian Federation of the need to replace documents and vehicle registration plates with Russian ones by the end of this year.
