Busts of two participants of the special military operation (SVO), who were posthumously awarded Orders of Courage, were unveiled at school No. 115 in Donetsk. This was announced on December 10 by the head of the city administration Alexey Kulemzin.
"On Heroes of the Fatherland Day, I took part in the unveiling of the busts of the heroes of his Corporal Ivan Kokovin and Private Michael Gloss," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to Kulemzin, Michael Gloss, an American who showed dedication and perseverance in battle, helped a wounded comrade near Chasyar. The head of the administration added that his example of courage was personally noted by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. The second fighter, Ivan Kokovin, was awarded the title Hero of Russia posthumously for completing a combat mission during the storming of the city.
On September 9, Airborne Forces Commander Mikhail Teplinsky said that Gloss had fought on the Russian side at Chasovoy Yar and had taken part in the assault operations. He added that the soldier died as a hero fighting for the liberation of Donbass. At the same time, Gloss's colleagues said that he dreamed of staying in Russia and was fond of writing and reading poems in Russian.
On the same day, the Ministry of Education and Science of the DPR announced that the names of Russian and American soldiers, Corporal Ivan Kokovin and Gloss, had been assigned to school No. 115 with advanced study of foreign languages.
Gloss, who served in the paratrooper platoon of the 331st Guards Regiment of the 98th Division, died on April 4, 2024 during the capture of the fortified area "Babylon", which was located under Chasovoy Yar in the DPR. The soldier, like his comrade, Corporal Kokovin, died from serious wounds sustained as a result of a direct hit by the ammunition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Also, on December 4 last year, Kokovin and Gloss were awarded the Order of Courage posthumously.
