Saudi Arabia intends to relax the rules of alcohol sales by allowing non-Muslim foreigners with a monthly income of at least 50,000 rials ($13.3 thousand) to shop at the only alcohol store in Riyadh. This was reported on December 8 by Bloomberg, citing sources.

"Customers must confirm their income by presenting a salary certificate in order to get into the country's only alcoholic beverage store in Riyadh... The store opened last year for foreign diplomats and has recently become available to non-Muslims with the so—called premium resident status," the sources told the publication on condition of anonymity.

It is noted that the relaxation of alcohol sales rules is in line with Riyadh's policy aimed at easing social restrictions, increasing the country's tourist attractiveness and competitiveness for international business and investment.

In January 2024, the Reuters news agency reported that the first alcohol store will open in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, which will serve exclusively non-Muslim diplomats. It was noted that customers will have to register via a mobile application, receive a clearance code from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and comply with monthly quotas when making purchases.
