New Year's holidays are no exception — work during this period must be compensated in double the amount. Anna Alikova, an independent HR expert, told Izvestia on December 8.

"The legislation of most countries provides for increased pay for work on official holidays. In Russia, as a rule, such work is paid in double the amount. A surcharge of 100% is often set for work during the New Year holidays, which actually means doubling the usual salary," the specialist explained.

Alikova noted that ignoring the rules for paying for holiday shifts can lead to legal proceedings for the employer: an employee has the right to file a complaint with the labor inspectorate if he has not been credited with the required allowances.

She added that the calculation of additional remuneration should be based on the average earnings of an employee for regular working days.

On December 25, psychologist, Gestalt therapist Elena Masolova warned about the risks of New Year's Eve depression. One of its causes is financial stress. In addition, this mood may be due to the fact that the end of December is perceived as a period for evaluating the past year. If the results do not bring joy or the person is unable to focus on positive results, but, on the contrary, focuses on his failures, then in this case negative feelings become a constant concomitant condition at the end of the year and the person begins to experience dissatisfaction and the feeling that the year has passed in vain.
